Red Oval Welsh Blanket
Winter summer blanket with reverse. Woven in the traditional Welsh double cloth.
Finished with a blanket stitch.
100% wool. 60 by 90 inches.
Woven into the pattern are the ancient circles of my homeland – Moel Llanfair, Moel Gyw, Moel Eithinen, Moel Fenlli, Moel Fama, Moel Dywyll, Moel Llys-y-coed, Moel Arthur, Moel Penycloddiau – proudly contoured into the landscape.
Bold stitches like palisade poles guarding hill forts, a defensive spine for the heartland of Wales, where now the bold mast of Moel y Parc broadcasts S4C and Radio Cymru to succour our language forward.
My predecessors survived under pelts and fleeces; likewise I spread the woollen circles of my blanket for its timeless comfort. I hold on to it tightly – my Welsh inheritance.
The Moelydd refers to the hill forts that line the Clwydian range of hills. These hill forts were built in the Bronze Age, around 2,000 years ago.
